Snapshot of the Week

READING/LANGUAGE ARTS
In reading we read an article ("Blind To Limitations") about a man who is blind and climbed Mt. Everest and Mt. Denali. We also watched a video about him. Another thing we did was we read a Scholastic News article about a twelve year old boy that climbed Mt.Denali. We are still reading "Bud, Not Buddy." Finally, in writing we wrote a paragraph about the differences and similarities of two articles about the three states of matter.

SCIENCE
We are still learning about matter and how it can change its state. We studied the specifics of the states of matter and how to tell them apart. Also we did an experiment with brown sugar to explain density, volume, and mass. We had to write an essay that compares and contrasts two articles about matter.

SOCIAL STUDIES
In social studies we are learning about WWI and the stock market crash of 1929. We are also learning about the panama canal in central america. Another subject we are learning is about the roaring twenties and "the new cars". This is what we have been learning in social studies.

MATH
In math, we are learning geometry.  We are learning about linear units and non-linear units, so graphing. Linear means a straight line of points on a graph, and non-linear means a non straight line.  We are learning about coordinate grid. We are doing student book pages to practice. We learned that because X goes before Y, so we do the X axes before the Y axes in the coordinate graph.  We are working hard on putting coordinates on a graph.
