Reading

In reading we did text structures using   "Advances in Transportation" article. We also did conjunctions and used quotation marks for titles. On Wednesday we read an article about transportation and we used boxes and bullets.  This helped us find the main idea and supporting details. Finally, we did context clues and had a quiz today.

MATH

 In math we are studying about how we multiply and divide decimals, whole numbers, and fractions. We are learning different strategies in each different class. In the next couple weeks, we will be learning the standard algorithm.

SCIENCE

We are having a test on the oceans unit and the test on Wednesday, Jan. 20. Our next unit is based on matter and  energy.

SOCIAL STUDIES

We just finished chapter 14 of the civil war. We also finished learning about the underground railroad.  Our next social studies activity is Expansion and Change. We'll be learning about the pony express and how the railroad contributed to the expansion of the west. Also the Westward Growth of America.

Genius Hour Begins!

5th Graders are hard at work researching their passion.   Some are focusing on science while others are researching sports.  Genius Hour is an hour a week for students to engage in their passion.
